What are the advantages of booking flights and accommodation independently rather than using a travel agent?

Booking flights and accommodation separately offers many benefits compared to using a travel agent but the main advantages are cost and flexibility:

a) Cost Savings: The biggest advantage is cost saving. When you book independently, you have the ability to compare prices across different airlines, departure airport and accommodation options and choose the combination which offers the best value for your budget.

b) Flexibility: Independent booking allows you to tailor your travel plans according to your preferences and budget. You can choose to stay for any duration, travel on specific dates and select flights, accommodation and transfer options to best suit your plans. This flexibility enables you to create a personalized travel experience without being limited to pre-planned tour packages offered by travel agencies.

Do I need specific travel insurance when booking independently ?

Travel insurance is essential when booking independently. It should be effective from the time of booking, not the date of departure – don’t put this off!

Providing you have booked fully licensed accommodation and declared any pre-existing medical conditions, good quality travel insurance can cover emergency medical expenses, provide assistance in case of travel delays or cancellations, and offer valuable advice and support for lost luggage and any other unforseen circumstances. Therefore, having travel insurance ensures that you are adequately protected and can enjoy your independent travel experiences with confidence.

A GHIC card, while very important, is not a substitute for travel insurance.

Can I book a transfer from Arrecife airport to Bungalow No 31 ?

There is a taxi rank directly outside the airport door and a taxi straight to Playa Bastian is approx 25 €. The taxi rank is well organised by a controller at the front of the queue, so if you need a large or an accessible vehicle, they will organise this for you.

There are, however, pre-bookable options too and you can search for Hoppa or First Minute Travel for their information.

How much money will I need to cover my stay ?

A self-catering holiday provides maximum flexibility during your stay and you can choose to visit the local supermarket and cook yourself or eat out – in practice you’ll probably settle on a combination of both. Bungalow No 31 has a fully fitted, well-equipped kitchen with full size oven, 4 ring hob and microwave as well as a full size fridge-freezer, to make a self-catering stay as easy as possible. If you choose to eat out, the main advantages of Costa Teguise as a resort, is that the quality and choice of eating out options is amazing ! Whatever your likes/dislikes and budget, you’ll find fabulous choice.

As a rough guide, a reasonable daily budget would be 100€ per couple, allowing for a combination of eating in and eating out at good quality restaurants. If you prefer British pub food, you could budget less.
